Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know for recital day, all right here. Show Day Basics
When and where is the recital?
Main Character Energy: Take the Stage will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at The Barn. Showtime is 2:00 PM. The show is approximately 1 hour long. All classes perform in this one show.
What time should my dancer arrive?
Solos, Duos, and Trios: please arrive by 12:00 PM.

All other dancers: please arrive by 1:00 PM.

All dancers must arrive in their first costume with hair and makeup complete and ready to perform. Dancers may wear a cover-up such as a robe or long button-down shirt over their costume to protect it until showtime.
What happens after Tiny Toes and Hip Hop perform?
After Tiny Toes and Hip Hop dancers finish their performance, they will have reserved seating in the front row of the audience so they can enjoy the rest of the show! They will remain with their class and assigned chaperones at all times until after the finale and final curtain call. Dancers may not leave with parents until the show has ended.
How long is the show?
The show is approximately 1 hour long.
Does my dancer have to stay until the end?
Yes! At the end of the show all dancers take the stage together for the final curtain call and bows. This special moment celebrates everything they have worked toward all year and they will not want to miss it.
Is this a free event?
Yes! Admission is free. No tickets are required. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
Parking, Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Where do I park?
Please park in the Lower School parking lot. Allow extra time, especially if arriving right at call time.
Where do I drop off my dancer?
Walk your dancer to the Check-In Tables at The Barn. Our staff will check them in and get them settled backstage. Parents are not permitted past the check-in tables. Backstage parents and Upper School dancers will be back there to supervise and support all performers throughout the show.
Who will be backstage with my dancer?
Backstage parents and Upper School dancers will be present throughout the entire show. Your dancer will be supervised, supported, and cheered on the whole time. They will never be left unattended.
Where do I pick up my dancer?
After the final curtain call, return to the check-in area to receive your dancer. Please send just one parent to pick up to keep the area clear. Allow a few minutes for performers to gather their belongings and make their way out.
Video and Photography
Will there be a video of the show?
Yes! A professional video of the full show will be posted to the Steinhart Dance Co. YouTube page approximately one week after the recital. Families are also welcome and encouraged to film and take photos from the audience during the show.
General
What can I expect when my dancer arrives?

What are the final rehearsal week rules?
No costumes during final rehearsal week unless Miss Jessica specifically asks otherwise. Dancers should come to class in their regular dancewear. Use rehearsal week to practice hair and makeup so you are ready for show day.
When are in-class dress rehearsals?
In-class dress rehearsals run June 1 through June 4 during your dancer's regular class time. No costumes unless Miss Jessica asks otherwise. Please arrive ready to rehearse.

Hair and Makeup
Practice at home before show day! Use final rehearsal week (June 1 to 4) to test your full look.
Makeup is required for all dancers. Stage lights wash out facial features and makeup helps your dancer's expressions show from the audience. Younger dancers (ages 2 to 6) should wear blush, lipstick, and a touch of eyeshadow. Older dancers (ages 7 and up) should wear full stage makeup including foundation, powder, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and red lipstick. Bring your makeup kit for touch-ups backstage. Nail polish is fine. Only stud earrings and permanent bracelets are permitted, no other jewelry.

Stage Makeup

A step-by-step tutorial for full stage makeup. Great for dancers ages 7 and up. Parents of younger dancers can use this as a guide too.
